The History of Kansas City Chiefs Football
Founded in 1960 as one of the original clubs in the American Football League, the Dallas Texans, as they were originally known, burst onto the scene under legendary coach Hank Stram. The squad dominated the decade, clinching three AFL championships and establishing themselves as a formidable force.
Along the way, they found themselves in a new place—in Kansas City, playing as the Chiefs. The name was given in honor of Mayor Harold Roe Bartle, who was instrumental in bringing professional football to town. And the locals welcomed their team with open arms.
By 1967, the AFL had merged with the NFL, which shifted the whole landscape of the league. These changes had no impact on the Chiefs’ winning ways, though! It didn’t take them long to prove their moxy. They clinched the AFL Western Division in 1968, then took home the trophy after Super Bowl IV.
From there, the organization endured a long period of ups and downs. With the exception of two postseason games, the ‘70s and '80s were pretty much a dry spell. It wasn’t until the 1990s that a resurgence got underway.
Once again, the Chiefs began to captivate crowds with stellar performances. Notable players and a commitment to excellence redefined their journey. Finally, in the 21st century, they made their way back to the championship stage.
Now, with multiple playoff appearances and two Super Bowl wins under their belts, Kansas City continues to be the team to beat in the AFC West. How will this season end up? Lend your support to your favorite franchise—get your Chiefs tickets today!

Arrowhead Stadium Information & Parking
Arrowhead Stadium opened in 1972 and serves as the home of the Chiefs. This revered arena is located in Kansas City, and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium is currently the official name for the venue.
It’s the fourth-largest venue in the National Football League, and its capacity is estimated at 76,416. The structure sits within the Truman Sports Complex, and it shares this space with Kauffman Stadium, where the Kansas City Royals play Major League Baseball.
After entering from a tunnel between sections 113 and 114, the Chiefs head to their sideline in front of sections 118–120, and the visiting team lines up at sections 101, 102, and 136. Teams play here on a surface covered in lush Bermuda grass.
Accessibility Options
In an effort to ensure that everyone can enjoy the game, Arrowhead Stadium takes pride in its commitment to accessibility. The staff is well-equipped to address the needs of fans with disabilities, offering accessible seating options and assistance.
There are pick-up and drop-off points on site, but passes will need to be obtained prior to game day. Additionally, mobility carts are provided for use up to three hours before kickoff and for the entirety of each game. Cart requests should be made upon arrival at the complex. Guests requiring either service will need to contact the Fan Experience Department.
Elevator access is available upon request, and accessible sections have been designated around the stadium. If you require relocation, visit any Fans First booth. Note that the availability of ADA seats is not guaranteed, so it’s important to plan ahead and take action as soon as possible.
