About Beck

Beck Hansen, better known simply as Beck, moved from Los Angeles to New York City in the late 1980s to immerse himself in the anti-folk scene. His unique approach to music quickly became apparent as he blended genres and explored sounds, setting the stage for a career that would defy conventional categorization.

After returning to the West Coast, Beck's innovative independent releases and live shows took the local music scene by storm. This success paved the way for his breakthrough single "Loser" in 1994 and his 1996 album Odelay, which achieved both critical and commercial success and earned the artist multiple Grammys.

Subsequent albums showcased his ability to master a wide array of styles. The critically acclaimed Sea Change was named one of Rolling Stone's "Greatest Albums of All Time," and the introspective Morning Phase won Album of the Year at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Colors and Guero topped the charts and collected additional accolades.

Beck's success has allowed him opportunities to collaborate with a diverse range of artists, enhancing his musical versatility and broadening his reach. Notable projects include "Sin City" with Emmylou Harris (1999), "Academia" with Sia (2008), "Night Running" with Cage the Elephant (2019), and "Find My Way" with Paul McCartney (2021).

With a multitude of accomplishments dotting his past, Beck has built up the potential for a highly promising future. His consistent experimentation and involvement in the arts suggest that fans can expect new ventures, fresh sounds, and intriguing performances, and fans and critics are excited by the prospect of his future contributions.

Live Moments That Made Headlines

On stage, Beck's versatility shines as he transforms the stage into a dynamic audio-visual experience, ensuring that every performance adequately shares the best elements of his extensive repertoire. As a result, he has delivered some of the most memorable moments in live music history. The following events exemplify what's possible at one of his shows:

  • September 5, 1997: Beck's "Sessions at West 54th" performance signified the end of his 18-month tour promoting Odelay. In this televised broadcast, he delivered a standout rendition of "Where It's At," featuring a funk-infused jam session that encapsulated the tour's energy.

  • October 9, 1999: Beck headlined the first Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, setting a high standard for future performers. This iconic show was not just a musical act but a cultural statement, helping to define a festival that valued artistic innovation over commercial appeal.

  • April 28, 2003: At London's Union Chapel, Beck's set took a more introspective turn with a predominately acoustic lineup from his album Sea Change. The Gothic venue added a haunting resonance to his performance, particularly during "Ship in a Bottle" and "It's All In Your Mind."

  • June 30, 2014: Beck returned to the Big Apple for a two-part show that began with an introspective set of songs from Morning Phase and Sea Change. Then, it exploded into a high-energy sequence and ended with a celebratory jam with Sean Lennon.

  • June 26, 2016: On Glastonbury's Pyramid Stage, Beck delivered a show that seamlessly blended his hits with tributes to musical legends David Bowie and Prince. His performance was a mix of melancholy homage and exuberance, capturing the essence of the festival's eclectic spirit.

  • September 9, 2023: During a Summer Odyssey Tour stop at Madison Square Garden, Beck and Phoenix electrified the audience with a collaborative setlist that spanned their respective hits. Beck's performance was highlighted by a medley moving between acoustic ballads and rap.
