About Feist

Leslie Feist, a talented singer and songwriter, embarked on her musical journey at the age of 15 as the founder and lead vocalist of the Calgary punk band Placebo. In 1993, the band got a huge break when they won a Battle of the Bands competition, securing an opening slot at Infest in a lineup that included Bad Brains, They Might Be Giants, Violent Femmes, and the legendary Ramones.

She released her first solo album, Monarch, in 1999 and produced a collection of seven songs at home, known as The Red Demos, in 2001. Those tracks would become the foundation of her major label debut, Let It Die. It featured a mix of covers and original tracks, including “Mushaboom,” which would later be used in a men’s fragrance ad as well as the film 500 Days of Summer.

That wasn’t the only Feist song to be featured in a commercial or film. Her true breakthrough came when the "1234," a song from her third studio album, The Reminder, was featured in an iPod nano commercial. She has also had songs on the soundtracks of Legion, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2, Warm Bodies, Gossip Girl, and Grey’s Anatomy.

You might not know where you first heard Feist, but the award-winning artist has been part of pop culture for over three decades, filmed a documentary about her creative process, and continues to create incredible music as a collaborator and a solo artist. She has played small clubs and major festivals and shows no signs of slowing down. Catch her when you can!

Live Moments That Made Headlines

On stage, Feist has created moments that are both buzzworthy and unforgettable. She consistently demonstrates raw talent and an ability to form genuine connections with her audiences. These standout shows underscore her authenticity and exemplify the magic of her live performances:

  • April 5, 2008: At the Juno Awards, Feist won all five of her nominated categories, including Artist of the Year against Michael Bublé, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, and Pascale Picard. She also got the audience on their feet with a riveting rendition of “Sealion.” The traditional African American folk song, also known as “See-Line Woman,” was popularized by Nina Simone in the 1960s.

  • June 28, 2013: Feist opened Festival International de Jazz de Montréal in grand fashion with a free show on the outdoor main stage. Tens of thousands of attendees lined up in the rain to see her play a mix from Metals along with other popular tracks like “My Moon My Man,” “Mushaboom,” and “I Feel It All.” She closed with an encore of “Intuition” from The Reminder.

  • May 5, 2017: During a sold-out show at the Palace Theatre in Los Angeles, Feist invited everyone in attendance to fill the empty spaces and celebrate the music, telling them the venue belonged to them. She was showcasing songs from her album Pleasure, released just days earlier, and fans were hearing many of the new songs for the first time.

  • May 5, 2022: For a unique show at Stanford’s Memorial Auditorium, Feist enlisted the help of designer Rob Sinclair, famous for his work with Adele, LCD Soundsystem, David Byrne, Queen, Lorde, and Peter Gabriel. They created an immersive experience that put Leslie on a small stage in the center of a circle of fans, an idea born from the lack of closeness during the pandemic.

  • May 15, 2023: Feist’s tour stop at the Fillmore in Philadelphia also featured an in-the-round setup. She incorporated live-looping vocals and controlled real-time visuals from her phone before letting audience members handle the camera. In addition to new material from Multitudes, she offered fresh takes on her classics and an a capella version of “I Took All of My Rings Off.”
