About Rainbow Kitten Surprise

The founding members of Rainbow Kitten Surprise began their musical venture while attending Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Ela Melo and Darrick Keller started composing together in their dorm, but they added a few friends and their project quickly gained traction.

Their memorable moniker was the product of a friend’s post-surgical morphine-induced brainstorming session, and it certainly helped give the group a unique identity. It wasn’t long before they made their official debut with the self-produced and independently released album called Seven + Mary in 2013.

Their first major break came with the song "Devil Like Me", which propelled them into the spotlight after it was featured in VH1's Make A Band Famous live-streaming event and vote-in contest. Rainbow Kitten Surprise reached the final 24, demonstrating their potential on a national platform.

Following this initial success, the collective continued to expand their discography with RKS in 2015 and How to: Friend, Love, Freefall in 2018. They have become known for their clever musicianship and engaging stage presence, elements that never fail to captivate audiences.

With Rainbow Kitten Surprise committed to continuous innovation and known for tackling complex themes through their music, fans have a lot to look forward to. As they deliver new material to the masses, this dynamic ensemble will undoubtedly be adding new and exciting chapters to their ever-evolving saga.
