About the Eagles

In early 1971, musicians Glenn Frey and Don Henley met Linda Ronstadt, who recruited them for her band. This collaboration sparked a songwriting partnership, and together they formed the Eagles with Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner later that year.

The band went to London to record their self-entitled debut album, produced by Glyn Johns who was lured in by the singers’ impressive harmonies. Their sound, classified as country rock, was influenced by rock legends like The Beatles, country icons like Merle Haggard, and folk artists such as Bob Dylan, but it was their vocal blend that set them apart.

“Eagles” soared, selling over a million copies in the United States and certified Gold in Canada and Silver in the United Kingdom. Over the next 50+ years, they would go on to become one of the most successful rock bands in history, winning multiple Grammys, including Record of the Year (“Hotel California,” 1978) and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals (“Lyin’ Eyes,” 1976).

They have sold over 150 million albums worldwide, six reaching number one on the Billboard 200, and 21 of their songs have been listed on the Billboard Hot 100. The band was inducted into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and in 2016, they received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, solidifying their enduring impact on American music.

The Eagles' Setlist

The band’s catalog is a timeless blend of country-tinged rock and smooth, harmony-driven ballads that have become soundtracks to many lives. Their music, characterized by its melodic richness and storytelling lyrics, has an enduring appeal that transcends generations and plays out wonderfully on stage.

On stage, the Eagles transform their meticulously crafted studio work into a more visceral, engaging experience. That’s why their tours have continued to sell out worldwide. Even after founding member Glenn Frey passed away in 2016, his son Deacon helped keep the spirit of the band alive with heartfelt performances of his father’s songs.

Live Moments That Made Headlines

The Eagles have consistently delivered unforgettable concerts, but their greatest live performances truly captured the magic of their music. The following newsworthy samples represent spectacular shows and pivotal moments in the band’s history:

  • Taking It Easy (July 1974):  "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert” did a show on the Eagles, and he brought Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne on as special guests. All of the musicians took to the stage together, and what ensued was possibly the greatest live version of “Take It Easy” ever recorded.

  • Capital Centre (March 1977): During the “Hotel California” tour, the Eagles performed the title song at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. The recording became a sensation, with a remastered version receiving hundreds of millions of views on YouTube. Talk about timeless!

  • Hell Freezes Over (April 1994): After a 14-year break, the Eagles planned a two-hour MTV special to record their second live album, Hell Freezes Over. It reignited their popularity and included a stunning acoustic rendition of "Hotel California.”

  • History of the Eagles (July 2013): In conjunction with the release of the 2013 documentary History of the Eagles,” a performance at the KFC Yum! Center kicked off a tour that took the band through North America and to Europe and Oceania between 2013 and 2015.

  • Carrying On (July 2017): At the Classic West festival in Los Angeles, the Eagles stepped on stage for the first time since the passing of Glenn Frey. His son Deacon picked up where his dad left off, and Vince Gill took vocals on a few songs. Bob Seger joined the group for a soul-stirring rendition of “Heartache Tonight,” and all-in-all, the set was a huge success.

  • Vegas Residency (September 2019): the Eagles' "Hotel California" residency at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas included a full-album performance of Hotel California with a live orchestra, offering fans a unique and immersive musical experience.

  • Launch of the Long Goodbye (September 2023): Celebrating their legacy at “World’s Most Famous Arena,” the Eagles marked the start of their farewell tour. This concert was filled with nostalgia, featuring more than two hours of their classic songs.

Eagles Collaborations

The Eagles were part of a California rock culture, associating with some of the biggest names in the industry. This led to notable collaborations, including the following joint efforts:

  • Jackson Browne (1972): "Take It Easy," on the Eagles' debut album, was a song that became synonymous with their laid-back California sound. It was co-written by Jackson Browne, who also contributed the unreleased track "Nightingale" to the album.

  • Don Felder (1974): Don Felder, who later became a full member of the Eagles, initially collaborated with the group on the album On the Border. His guitar work, particularly on "Already Gone," added a new dimension to their sound.

  • Warren Zevon (1976): the Eagles collaborated with Warren Zevon on his self-titled album, specifically on the song "Desperados Under the Eaves." This collaboration merged Zevon's lyrical storytelling with the Eagles' harmonies and instrumentation.

  • Randy Newman (1978): On Randy Newman's 1978 album Little Criminals, Don Henley and Tim Schmit sang backing vocals on "I'll Be Home," while Glenn Frey played guitar on two tracks and provided backing vocals on three others. Frey and Henley joined Newman on "Short People," adding a vocal layer to the satirical song.

  • Bob Seger (1979): Bob Seger contributed to the writing of "Heartache Tonight," a track from the Eagles' album The Long Run. His involvement brought a raw, rock-oriented edge to the song, contributing his signature richness and depth to the chart-topping hit.
