About The Marías

When Josh Conway, an LA-based drummer, crossed paths with María Zardoya, a Puerto Rican vocalist from Atlanta, during a show at the Kibitz Room in 2016, their encounter sparked a creative partnership. Conway’s production finesse complemented Zardoya’s bilingual lyricism, and together, they crafted a sound that weaves together elements of jazz, funk, and psychedelic rock.

They recruited friends Edward James (keyboardist) and Jesse Perlman (guitarist), and The Marías began recording, gaining momentum with the release of their debut EP, Superclean Vol. I, in 2017. Their early works showcased their ability to create complex and dreamy pop compositions, and they solidified their position as sonic trailblazers with their first full-length album, Cinema, in 2021.

Over the years, The Marías have collaborated with notable artists as well. They teamed up with Triathalon for the hypnotic track “Drip” in 2018 and added a special touch to Bad Bunny's “Otro Atardecer”” in 2022.  The following year, they recorded “Si Me Voy” with Cuco, added a lush melodic layer to Tainy’s “Mañana” with Young Miko, and were featured on “Separate Ways” and “A Room Up in the Sky” with Eyedress.

They continue to enthrall listeners with songs that are both timeless and evocative. In addition to the music itself, the group has developed a reputation for producing vintage-inspired music videos, and their visually captivating live performances enhance the allure of their sound. With a trajectory marked by innovation and artistic expression, The Marías remain at the forefront of indie pop.

The Marías’ Setlist

The Marías' catalog creates an ethereal soundscape that's as enchanting as it is soothing. Their studio work translates to the stage with lush instrumentals and Zardoya's spellbinding vocals, drawing the audience into their vibe. 1. Only In My Dreams

  2. Ruthless

  3. Cariño

  4. Clueless

  5. Calling U Back

  6. Un Millón

  7. Little By Little

  8. Hush

  9. All I Really Want Is You

  10. Basta Ya

Live Moments That Made Headlines

The Marías are renowned for their cohesive musicality and multicultural appeal. Their power to deliver concerts in both Spanish and English has broadened their reach, but it’s their relatability that has earned them sellout crowds. They consistently earn widespread acclaim for their shows, which rely heavily on the connections they build with audiences. These have been among their most talked-about appearances:

  • April 13, 2018: The Marías enjoyed a successful Coachella debut, offering a set that focused on tracks from Superclean Vol. I and Vol. II such as “I Don't Know You” and "Carino." Their sultry samba-esque sound attracted a large crowd to the Sonora stage.

  • April 29, 2019: Following a set from Loyal Lobos, The Marías received a warm welcome at Antone’s Nightclub in Austin, Texas. Their cover of Britney Spears’ "Baby One More Time" was a hit, as always, but it was the encore, specifically “Clueless,” that thrilled fans most of all.

  • March 1, 2022: At Summit in Denver, Colorado, Neoma and Ogi warmed up the audience, and The Marías played to a packed house. Their setlist featured several songs from Cinema, their album inspired by classic films, beginning with “Just a Feeling” and ending with “Hush.”

  • August 5, 2022: The Marías treated Outside Lands to a romantic interlude with a set that made the expansive grounds feel more like an intimate club. Airy vocals and rhythmic beats prompted subtle PDAs as people swayed and sang along to "All I Really Want Is You" and "Otro Atardecer.”

  • October 1, 2022: When the band introduced their new single “Run Your Mouth” at Griffith Park’s smoky Greek Theatre, all eyes were on María Zardoya. She confidently pranced across the stage as she delivered the scathing lyrics, interacting with fans through coy facial expressions.
