The History of Phoenix Suns Basketball

The Suns were founded as an expansion club in 1968, and their early years were marked by struggle, as they failed to make the playoffs in their first five seasons. However, the team began to turn things around in the mid-1970s, led by rookie Alvan Adams and point guard Paul Westphal. In 1976, the Suns reached the NBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, but they lost to the Boston Celtics in six games.

The ‘80s saw the Suns become a perennial playoff contender, led by Walter Davis, Kevin Johnson, and Tom Chambers. The squad reached the Western Conference Finals four times in the decade but failed to make it to the NBA Finals.

In 1992, Charles Barkley was acquired in a trade from the Philadelphia 76ers, and this move gave the organization exactly what they needed to make it back to the Finals. However, when they got there in 1993, they were defeated by the Chicago Bulls in six games.

After Barkley's departure, the Suns went through a rebuilding period and returned to prominence in the early 2000s. Unfortunately, even with Steve Nash, who won two MVP awards and led the Suns to the Western Conference Finals four times in five years, the title remained elusive.

Lately, the team has been on a tear, and a championship in the near future isn’t out of the question. Will Phoenix finally achieve the glory they’ve worked so hard to attain? With Suns tickets, you can watch the action unfold right from the stands.

The Suns Basketball Schedule

The hardest part about getting to a live NBA game is choosing the right one! With 82 NBA matchups every year, it’s tough to narrow things down. But don’t worry! We’re here to help. Let’s start with top competitors.

In the Pacific Division, the Sacramento Kings are determined to stop the Suns from rising to the top, but the Golden State Warriors and LA Clippers aren’t about to make things easy either. Still, Phoenix has the most history with the Los Angeles Lakers, so a Lakers-Suns pairing would be a fantastic pick.

Across the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs have some beef with Phoenix, but it’s the Dallas Mavericks who have made it onto the radar as the Suns’ top rival. These teams have recently battled it out in the playoffs, with the Mavs getting the edge. It will be interesting to see what develops.

If you’d like to see an Eastern Conference contender, consider the Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, or Boston Celtics. Each of these clubs has the drive to make it all the way, and you could be catching a glimpse of a team the Suns will end up facing in the Finals!

Footprint Center Information

The Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix has a capacity of 17,071 people and serves as the home of Phoenix Suns basketball. The venue also hosts Mercury WNBA games, Arizona Rattlers indoor football, concerts, comedy, and other special events.

The arena has a variety of amenities for fans, including a restaurant, bar, lounge, and team store. A variety of premium seating options are available, including courtside seats, theater boxes, club seats, and luxury suites.

When it comes to general seating, past guests have raved about the views from the first-level baselines. The Suns sit in front of section 101, while their opposition finds their place in front of section 103. Vantage points are similar across the floor in sections 113–115, and the corners offer different but comparable vantage points.

On the second level, you’ll find elevated views, with mid-court sections being the highest in demand. Sections 210–212 and 226–228 are behind the baskets and can typically be obtained at budget-friendly prices.
