About Mœnia

Alfonso Pichardo, Jorge Soto, and Alejandro "Midi" Ortega were junior high school friends in the heart of Mexico City. In 1985, they set out on a mission to create a sound that fused Latin pop with the punk, alternative, and electronic music they had discovered. The result, established under the name Mœnia, was deeply influenced by the synth-heavy waves of the 80s and quickly earned the trio a reputation as the "Mexican Depeche Mode."

Although they released an EP in 1992, their true breakthrough came with their eponymous debut in 1996, which featured the hit single "Estabas Ahí.” Their sophomore release in 1999, Adicion+, featured standouts such as "No Dices Más," and "Manto Estelar." With each subsequent album, including Le Modulor (2001), Televisor (2003), and Stereo Hits (2004), Mœnia showcased their ability to evolve without losing their essence.

By 2008, they were honored as the Group or Duo of the Year at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards. A Billboard Music Award nomination for Best Latin Album came in 2012, following the release of FM. In 2016, Fantom garnered critical acclaim and was nominated for Best Latin Rock Urban or Alternative Album at the Grammys. In 2021, they were nominated for the Fans’ Choice Awards in the Streaming/Group Concert category.

Mœnia has inspired a new generation of Latin artists in the electronic genre and maintained a passionate fan base drawn to their electrifying live performances. Their creative journey has also been marked by adventurous musical experiments and high-quality video production, further solidifying their status in the industry. The success they have sustained for over three decades speaks volumes of their relevance and pioneering spirit in the Latin American music scene.
