The History of Canadiens Hockey

In the realm of professional ice hockey, few franchises command the reverence bestowed upon the Montreal Canadiens. Established in 1917 in the National Hockey Association, the early years were marked by a fast-paced style of play. They attacked the net with relentless pursuit and saw the emergence of legends like Newsy Lalonde, Howie Morenz, Aurel Joliat, and Maurice "Rocket" Richard.

As the decades unfolded, the organization adapted to the evolving landscape, embracing a more strategic approach that emphasized puck possession and controlled offensive creativity. This transformation paved the way for further success, led by iconic players such as Jean Beliveau, Henri Richard, and Guy Lafleur. They redefined the club’s legacy with exceptional skills and unwavering leadership.

The 1980s were an era of dominance. Three Stanley Cup victories showcased the squad’s ability to adapt and excel. However,  the ‘90s were characterized by inconsistency until goaltender Patrick Roy arrived. He became the Canadiens' backbone, anchoring their defense and leading them to three Stanley Cup championships in the decade.

In the 21st century, the team has been through challenges and triumphs. At times, they’ve even struggled to maintain a winning record. A rebuilding process over the last dozen years has yielded promising results. Now, they hope to add to their two dozen Stanley Cups and a record-breaking number of playoff appearances.

The Habs Hockey Schedule

Before you buy your Canadiens tickets, you’ll need to analyze the official schedule and determine the opponents that will deliver the type of game you want to see. The docket features fiercely contested duels, top-ranked teams, and marquee matchups, as well as battles with two long-standing rivalries in the Atlantic Division.

The contentious relationship between Montreal and the Toronto Maple Leafs is long and storied. They have already met in the Stanley Cup Finals multiple times, so their regular-season games are always highly anticipated. Both clubs are members of the “Original Six,” and with their host cities just hours apart by car, decades of history and national bragging rights are major motivators behind their clashes.

A bit further south, the competitiveness between the Canadiens and the Boston Bruins harkens back to years of Stanley Cup clashes. These squads have met in the Finals more than any other pairing in NHL history. Plus, different playing styles, fervent fan bases, geographic proximity, and bragging rights all come into play.

Meetings with any of the “Original Six” would be intriguing encounters. They battle against the Detroit Red Wings in the Atlantic Division, the New York Rangers in the Metropolitan Division, and the Chicago Blackhawks in the Central Division of the Western Conference. Additionally, being the youngest franchise in the league, the Vegas Golden Knights would bring a challenge of franchise youth vs. experience.

Bell Centre Information

Bell Centre is a cultural hub that has captivated audiences since its grand opening in 1996. With a seating capacity of 21,105, this venue has witnessed countless electrifying NHL games, even hosting the Stanley Cup Finals an impressive nine times.

Beyond the ice, the arena transforms into a versatile stage for a wide array of events, from world-class concerts featuring renowned artists to captivating theatrical performances. Its ability to seamlessly adapt to diverse entertainment genres has solidified its reputation as a premier destination for entertainment in Montreal.

Seating

Those seeking the closest views of the players should opt for sections near the benches. The Canadiens sit in front of Sections 101 and 102, while Sections 101 and 124 are behind the visiting team. The penalty box sits across the floor in front of Section 113.

The home team shoots twice on the goal on the southwest side of the arena, which spans Sections 115–123 on the main level, 215–223 on the second tier, 321–335 on the third level, and 421–435 near the roof. Sections 426, 427, 428, and 429 are in the Family Zone.

On the opposite side of the ice behind sections 106–108, a VIP section offers gourmet food, an open bar, and comfortable accommodations. The 400 Level is the site of the Molson Ex Zone, where you can party with fellow fans and listen to live music.

Buyers on a budget may find decent views and prices to their liking on the 300 Level. Just be aware that railings in front of each row could obstruct views.
