The History of Seattle Kraken Hockey

Emerging from the depths of the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle Kraken’s journey began in 2018 when the NHL announced its intention to expand into Seattle. Having joined the National Hockey League in 2021, they are a young franchise, but despite their age, the Kraken have quickly captured the hearts of hockey fans in Seattle and beyond.

The team's name, which won a local contest in 2020, draws inspiration from a legendary sea monster of Scandinavian folklore. As it turns out, the team and the monster might have something in common. Although they ended their inaugural season ended with a losing record, they completely turned things around and made the playoffs their second year. It will be interesting to see how they progress in the coming years!

The Kraken NHL Schedule

Before you buy your Kraken tickets, you’ll need to review the official schedule to determine which due is most likely to deliver everything you want in a game. The Vancouver Canucks and the Edmonton Oilers, both fellow Pacific Division teams, have become two of Seattle’s fiercest rivals, fueled mostly by geographic proximity.

Beyond their divisional rivals, the Kraken face off against formidable opponents across the NHL. In the Central Division, the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, and Winnipeg Jets are determined not to let anyone block their road to a title.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Conference has the Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadiens posing significant challenges, with their extensive histories and long-standing fan bases adding to the intensity of these matchups.

Climate Pledge Arena Information

Climate Pledge Arena, advertised as “the most progressive, responsible, and sustainable arena in the world,” was the first building of its kind to receive International Living Future Institute Zero Carbon Certification. 

It’s not only the home of the Kraken but also the place to be when you want to see special Seattle University Redhawks basketball matchups or catch the WNBA’s Storm taking on their competition. Additionally, the venue hosts premier concerts, comedy shows, and more.

Seating

With over 17,100 seats for hockey, Climate Pledge Arena offers accommodations to suit many guest preferences. Sections behind the player benches provide fantastic views of the on-ice and behind-the-scenes action. The home team takes their place in front of Section 128 while the visiting team congregates closer to Section 102.

Cove Seats are behind the glass atop the side boards spanning Sections 4–24 on the east side of the building, where the players’ benches are, and 11–17 on the west. Speaking of the benches, you’ll find Seattle near Club 26 and the visiting team closer to 02, with Club 01 behind the space in between. On the upper level, Section 201 overlooks the player area.

The penalty box is in front of Club 14 and Section 214, and Sections 7–8 and 107–108 are known for their vantage point from behind the net. The Sharks shoot twice on this side of the ice, and Sections  20–21 and 120–121 are directly across the ice.

Parking

The Climate Pledge Arena garage is located at 158 Lenny Wilkens Way, but finding vacancies can be tough on event days. To be safe, we highly recommend reserving parking passes when you purchase your Seattle Kraken tickets.

Alternative Transportation

King County Metro offers the Link light rail service, and the Seattle Center Monorail Station is the closest to the venue. If you’re downtown near Westlake Center, hop on the monorail to get to the same destination. Alternatively, city buses, including routes 1, 8, and 32, have stops in the vicinity.
