About Foreigner
Emerging from New York City in 1976, Foreigner made their entrance to the music scene with a fusion of pop, rock, and symphonic elements. Their distinctive sound soon resonated with tens of thousands of fans, catapulting them to global stardom.
The band's core lineup comprised vocalist Lou Gramm, guitarist Mick Jones, bassist Ed Gagliardi, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, and multi-instrumentalist Ian McDonald. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1977, spawned hits like "Feels Like the First Time" and "Cold as Ice."
Foreigner's success continued with a string of chart-topping albums throughout the 1980s, including Double Vision (1978), Three_Sides_Live_in_Europe (1979), Foreigner 4 (1981), and Agent Provocateur (1984). Their music topped the charts worldwide, earning them numerous accolades, including several Grammy Award nominations, as well as American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Award nominations.
Beyond their commercial triumphs, Foreigner was celebrated for their groundbreaking music videos, such as "Waiting for a Girl Like You" and "I Want to Know What Love Is," which helped to redefine the art form in the 1980s. Their impact on popular culture is undeniable, inspiring countless musicians and leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of pop music.
In 1990, after a decade of success with Foreigner, Gramm announced his departure from the band due to creative differences and to focus on his solo career. Gramm's distinctive vocals had become synonymous with the Foreigner sound, so no one knew how they would survive without their frontman.
To fill the void left by Gramm's departure, Foreigner recruited vocalist Kelly Hansen in 1992. Hansen, a talented singer with a powerful voice and a charismatic stage presence, brought a new energy to the band, allowing them to continue their legacy while also forging their own path.
Hansen's tenure with Foreigner has seen both challenges and triumphs. He has successfully navigated fan expectations while contributing his unique style to the band's sound. Foreigner has continued to release new music and tour extensively, solidifying their position as one of rock's most enduring bands.
