About Heather McDonald

Heather McDonald, a native of California’s San Fernando Valley, attended the University of Southern California, before finding her calling with The Groundlings, a Los Angeles improvisational and sketch comedy troupe. As she honed her skills working as a writer and in front of the camera in a variety of television and film roles, the foundational experience allowed her to gain valuable industry connections and set the stage for future success.

Between 2007 and 2014, she gained significant recognition for her work on Chelsea Lately as both a writer and on-screen personality. Her sharp wit and fearless approach to comedy was evident in her banter with Chelsea Handler and her fellow round-table regulars, who weighed in on pop culture topics every weeknight. This performance led to a related role on the spinoff After Lately, a mockumentary set behind the scenes of Handler’s long-running E! network hit.

McDonald has also made her mark in stand-up comedy. Her Netflix special, Heather McDonald: I Don't Mean to Brag, was released in 2014, and she frequently performs at clubs, concert halls, casinos, and other venues across the United States. She has incorporated her personal anecdotes into two New York Times Best Sellers, You'll Never Blue Ball in This Town Again and My Inappropriate Life, as well as her podcast, Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald.

  • Chelsea Lately (2007–2014): McDonald was part of a hilarious lineup of round-table commentators such as Chelsea Handler, Chris Franjola, Sarah Colonna, Josh Wolf, Loni Love, Ross Mathews, Jo Koy, Guy Branum, Sarah Colonna, and Fortune Feimster.

  • RuPaul’s Drag Race (2014): Heather McDonald served as a guest judge and “Snatch Game” celebrity contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race. The episode featured RuPaul, Michelle Visage, Santino Rice, Gillian Jacobs, Bianca Del Rio, Adore Delano, and BenDeLaCreme.

  • Juicy Scoop with Heather McDonald (2014–Present): On her podcast, which has amassed more than 800 episodes and over 200 million downloads, McDonald dives into current events. Guests have included Claudia Oshry, Craig Shoemaker, Jessica Kirson, and Rachel Feinstein.
