The nearest parking options for the Hulman Center include a covered garage at 701 Cherry Street and a surface lot on North 8th Street. We highly recommend saving a pot in advance, and GoTickets allows you to reserve parking at the time of your Indiana State University basketball tickets.

Alternative Transportation

The Terre Haute Transit Utility (HTT) operates bus services in the area, and to make it easier for students and visitors to get to games, the university provides campus shuttle services with routes encompassing various parts of the campus.

Notable Indiana State Sycamores Men's Basketball Players

When you see the Sycamores play, you could be laying eyes on the next legend. The Indiana State Sycamores men's basketball program has been a training ground for top talent, propelling players to the NBA. These successful Sycamores made significant strides in the professional leagues after shining on the courts in college:

  • Jerry Newsom (1964–1968): Newsom, whose impressive scoring captured attention during his college days, helped his team make it to the 1968 Division II Basketball Tournament. He was drafted into the NBA by the Boston Celtics and the Indiana Pacers, but instead, he found his calling as a respected IHSAA referee. In 2022, his Indiana State number (41) was retired.

  • Larry Bird (1976–1979): Larry Bird, a world-renowned basketball icon, played for the Indiana State Sycamores. He led his squad to the NCAA championship game in 1979 and was drafted 6th overall by the Boston Celtics. The Naismith Memorial Hall of Famer’s illustrious professional career included three NBA Championships, three MVP Awards, and 12 All-Star appearances.

  • Carl Nicks (1976–1980): Playing alongside Larry Bird, Carl Nicks, a talented guard, was equally instrumental in the Sycamores' 1979 NCAA Tournament run. He was drafted 23rd overall by the Denver Nuggets in 1980, where he remained until he was traded to the Utah Jazz. From 1982–83, he played with the Cleveland Cavaliers before moving on to the international leagues.

  • John Sherman Williams (1982–1986): A three-year starter and honorable mention AP All-American at ISU, Williams went on to play in the Continental Basketball Association, followed by four seasons in the World Basketball League and five seasons on tour with Athletes in Action. Once he hung up his jersey, he dedicated his time and talents to coaching youth hoops.

  • Matt Renn (1997–2001): An All-Missouri Valley Conference selection who led his team in scoring (1998–1999, 2000–2001) and rebounding (1999–2000), Renn helped the Sycamores get to the NCAA Tournament in 2001. Although his NBA journey was brief, his scoring ability and leadership in college earned him an induction into the Indiana State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012.
