Lawlor Events Center Information
The Wolf Pack men's basketball team plays their home games at the Lawlor Events Center, named in honor of Glenn (Jake) Lawlor, a beloved former football coach and athletic director. The facility opened in 1983 and welcomes approximately 12,000 fans at basketball games, including students who make noise in a special section known as "The Den."
Game Day Parking
Multiple lots are accessible in the vicinity of the venue, but spaces fill up fast! GoTickets allows you to reserve parking when you buy your UNR basketball tickets. We highly recommend taking advantage of this feature, as it helps to ensure a smooth arrival and departure.
Alternative Transportation
The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) Washoe operates bus services in the Reno-Sparks area. Additionally, the University of Nevada, Reno offers campus shuttle services that are an efficient way for students, faculty, and visitors to move around the campus and reach the Lawlor Events Center.
Notable University of Nevada Basketball Players
When you see the Wolf Pack play, you might be getting a peek at the next Naismith Hall of Famer or international superstar. These University of Nevada standouts successfully transitioned from the courts of the NCAA to the hardwood of the professional leagues:
-
Edgar Jones (1975–1979): After an impressive stint at Nevada, where he set a record for total points scored, Jones became the 1980 CBA Rookie of the Year. During his six-year NBA run, he played for multiple teams, including the Nets, Pistons, Spurs, and Cavaliers. In 1988, he moved on to the Greek Basket League, where he became an All-Star and won a Greek Cup.
-
Ramon Sessions (2004–2007): As part of the Wolf Pack, Sessions set a freshman record with 166 assists and remains among the school’s leaders in both assists and steals. During the 2007 NBA Draft, he was chosen by the Milwaukee Bucks and made his NBA debut the following year. He was the first rookie in franchise history to record 20 points and 20 assists in the same game.
-
JaVale McGee (2006–2008): McGee was selected 18th overall by the Wizards. In 2011, he was the first player to use three balls at one time in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, earning him second place. His defensive dominance contributed to championships with the GS Warriors (2017, 2018) and LA Lakers (2020), and he won a gold medal with the U.S. men’s team at the 2020 Olympics.
-
Luke Babbitt (2007–2010): Named the 2010 WAC Player of the Year, Babbitt was drafted by the Timberwolves and traded to the Trail Blazers. Thanks to his exceptional long-range shooting, he was a reliable three-point specialist with the Heat, Hawks, and Pelicans. Now, as a high school basketball coach in Reno, he’s having an impact on the next generation of hoopsters.
-
Armon Johnson (2007–2010): Johnson developed a reputation as a strong playmaker and defender, which caught the attention of the Trail Blazers, who selected him as the 34th overall pick in the 2010 draft. After a brief stint in the NBA, he went on to play in Spain, Kazakhstan, and France before returning to Nevada to influence young athletes as a basketball coach.
