Athletics Center O’rena

The Athletics Center O’rena is home to the Oakland University men's and women’s basketball and volleyball teams. This multi-purpose arena, located on campus in Auburn Hills, Michigan, opened its doors in November 1998 and boasts a seating capacity of 4,000. The student section, known as the “Grizz Gang,” is an intimidating force to any visitors who take on the Golden Grizzlies on the nation's only blacktop court.

Game Day Parking

GoTickets allows you to reserve parking when you buy your Oakland basketball tickets. We highly recommend taking advantage of this feature, as spaces tend to fill up fast during events. Several lots surround the arena, including the following options:

  • Parking Lot P17 (Directly next to the O’rena)

  • Parking Lot P26 (Next to the Soccer Field)

  • Parking Lot P11 (Pioneer Drive and Ravine Drive)

  • Parking Lot P36 (Near the Engineering Center)

Notable Oakland University Basketball Players

When you see a Golden Grizzlies game, you never know when you’ll witness the next Naismith Hall of Famer or international superstar on the hardwood. The Oakland University athletic program has been a stepping stone for several players who have gone on to professional sports careers. These have been some of the school’s standouts:

  • Rawle Marshall (2002–2005): A 2003 MCC Newcomer of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Marshall became Oakland’s all-time leader in blocked shots. After leaving the university, he participated in NBA Summer Leagues with the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks and went on to play professionally in Iran, the Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Puerto Rico, and other leagues across the globe. He was a two-time Kazakh Cup winner and KBC champion.

  • Keith Benson (2007–2011): A two-time First-Team All-Summit and Summit League Player of the Year (2010, 2011), Benson is among the university’s greatest talents. He was the first Oakland athlete selected in the NBA Draft and was chosen 48th overall by the Atlanta Hawks. However, during the 2011 NBA Lockout, he joined Italy’s Dinamo Basket Sassari. He has since played in the G League and in several countries, including Taiwan, Lithuania, Bulgaria, and Dubai.

  • Kay Felder (2013–2016): 2014’s Horizon League Freshman of the Year, Felder left his mark at Oakland, breaking the league’s career assists record and earning numerous accolades. Standing at 5’9”, his 44” vertical leap was the second highest in draft combine history. He was selected by the Atlanta Hawks and traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but his playing time off the bench was interspersed with G League appearances until he made a move to the Chinese Basketball Association.

  • Kendrick Nunn (2016–2018): A transfer from UIUC, Nunn led the nation in three-point shots per game and finished second in scoring in his senior year at Oakland. He went undrafted but caught the attention of the Miami Heat, who signed him in April 2019. He became the fastest rookie to reach 500 points and the first undrafted player to win multiple Rookie of the Month honors. In 2020, he scored the most points as a rookie off the bench in the NBA Finals.

  • Jamal Cain (2021–2022): Cain's single season at Oakland was impactful, earning him Horizon League Co-Player of the Year honors with impressive averages in points and rebounds. Although he wasn’t chosen in the draft, his perseverance and performance during the Summer League paid off, earning him a two-way contract with the Miami Heat. He made his debut in a 132–115 win over the Charlotte Hornets on November 12, 2022, and got a shot in the NBA Finals in 2023.
