About Robert Plant
Robert Plant's impressive career, which has spanned over six decades, began with various blues bands around the West Midlands in England. He had left home at 16, but he was already laying the groundwork for his monumental ascent in the music world. One of his more successful early endeavors came when he worked with drummer John Bonham in Band of Joy, a rock group formed in 1966.
Plant's most significant breakthrough came in 1968 when he was invited to sing with The Yardbirds. Peter Grant and Jimmy Page liked what they heard, and with the addition of Bonham and keyboardist John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin was born. They soon signed with Atlantic Records and quickly achieved significant success.
Plant's distinct vocal style, which combined raw power with a wide range, set him apart as one of rock's most influential frontmen. The group produced eight albums in ten years and achieved global domination with anthemic songs, groundbreaking performances, and notable commercial success. But all good things must come to an end, and the group disbanded in 1980 after the shocking death of their drummer.
Eventually, Robert Plant embarked on a solo career to explore his eclectic range of influences that included blues greats Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters as well as the narrative and acoustic textures of folk music. From his work with Patty Griffin and Jimmy Page to his Grammy-winning album Raising Sand with Alison Krauss, he has demonstrated his ability to transcend genres and appeal to a broad audience.
