About Robert Plant

Robert Plant's impressive career, which has spanned over six decades, began with various blues bands around the West Midlands in England. He had left home at 16, but he was already laying the groundwork for his monumental ascent in the music world. One of his more successful early endeavors came when he worked with drummer John Bonham in Band of Joy, a rock group formed in 1966.

Plant's most significant breakthrough came in 1968 when he was invited to sing with The Yardbirds. Peter Grant and Jimmy Page liked what they heard, and with the addition of Bonham and keyboardist John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin was born. They soon signed with Atlantic Records and quickly achieved significant success.

Plant's distinct vocal style, which combined raw power with a wide range, set him apart as one of rock's most influential frontmen. The group produced eight albums in ten years and achieved global domination with anthemic songs, groundbreaking performances, and notable commercial success. But all good things must come to an end, and the group disbanded in 1980 after the shocking death of their drummer.

Eventually, Robert Plant embarked on a solo career to explore his eclectic range of influences that included blues greats Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters as well as the narrative and acoustic textures of folk music. From his work with Patty Griffin and Jimmy Page to his Grammy-winning album Raising Sand with Alison Krauss, he has demonstrated his ability to transcend genres and appeal to a broad audience.

Live Moments That Made Headlines

Robert Plant always delivers an immersive experience for fans, but these performances have demonstrated his ability to evolve while keeping the intensity he has been known for since the 1970s:

  • August 1983: Robert Plant launched his inaugural solo tour at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Ill., marking a significant milestone in his post-Led Zeppelin career. Eager to establish his solo identity, Plant notably omitted any Led Zeppelin material from his setlist, focusing instead on promoting his second album, 'The Principle of Moments.'

  • July 1985: Plant's performance at Live Aid, including a Led Zeppelin reunion with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, while talked into doing a reunion five years after their split, delivered a show that may not have lived up to the hype, but is still remembered in Led Zeppelin history. They were preceded by Phil Collins while fans were excited for the awaited reunion.

  • December 2007: In a historic moment at London's O2 Arena, Led Zeppelin reunited for a two-hour performance, fulfilling the dreams of millions of fans. Despite prior reluctance, Robert Plant fully embraced the reunion, even delivering a powerful rendition of "Stairway to Heaven," a song he had previously distanced himself from.

  • April 2008): Robert Plant and folk-country sensation Alison Krauss took to the stage for the first time together in Louisville, Kentucky. Their joint tour marked the beginning of a successful collaboration following their acclaimed album, Raising Sand.

  • June 2015: At the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee, Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters delivered a performance that spanned his entire career. Drawing from his illustrious career, Plant showcased his musical prowess with a mix of solo hits and Led Zeppelin classics, leaving a lasting impression on festival-goers.

  • February 2018: Plant's performance at the iconic Beacon Theatre in New York City promoted his recently released album Carry Fire. The show was a blend of new material and reimagined versions of classic tracks, delivered with the vocal prowess he is renowned for.
