About Switchfoot

Switchfoot formed in 1996 in San Diego, California, when brothers Jon and Tim Foreman teamed up with Chad Butler. Their name, inspired by a surfing term that means assuming a new stance, pays homage to their roots and represents their approach to life and music, characterized by a focus on change and movement.

Their major break came with the release of their fourth album, The Beautiful Letdown, in 2003, which achieved double platinum status thanks to hits like "Meant to Live" and “Dare You To Move.” They followed it up with Nothing is Sound (2005), Vice Verses (2011), and Fading West (2014), which soared to the top ten on the Billboard 200.

Hello Hurricane earned Switchfoot a Grammy for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album in 2011, as well as multiple San Diego Music Awards and GMA Dove Awards. In addition to their musical accomplishments, they have established a reputation as a philanthropic force, devoting time and energy to BRO-AM, an annual charity event focused on community wellbeing.

After a brief hiatus from making music so members could spend quality time with their families, they have returned with renewed enthusiasm. Poised and ready to produce new music and perform for their fans, their signature sound will no doubt be taking over the airwaves and echoing through venues across North America and beyond.

Live Moments That Made Headlines

Switchfoot's legacy is punctuated by dynamic live performances, which have thrilled audiences and, in many cases, have earned the group new fans. From intimate events to massive festivals, each moment, like the examples below, illustrates the band's commitment to meaningful interactions:

  • November 7, 2003: After growing up watching other artists play SOMA in San Diego, Switchfoot had their chance. This early performance, which Jon Foreman once called the “biggest show of our lives,” can still be seen on the platinum-selling Live in San Diego DVD.

  • May 31, 2015: The Springtime Festival in Frauenfeld has been lauded as the largest Christian music festival in Switzerland. Switchfoot got the show started with powerful renditions of "Say It Like You Mean It" and "Meant to Live.” Their closer, “Where I Belong,” left the audience in awe.

  • September 14, 2019: After five years at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the KAABOO music festival was saying farewell to its original venue before moving to Petco Park. Switchfoot’s uplifting Saturday night set, highlighted by Jon Foreman’s daring leap into the crowd, was a standout.

  • June 27, 2020: Amidst global lockdowns due to the pandemic, Switchfoot transformed their annual BRO-AM charity show into a virtual event. This allowed the group to connect with fans worldwide and raise funds for youth charities, underscoring their commitment to their community.

  • July 8, 2023: Switchfoot hosted a VIP Experience, featuring songs that spanned their entire discography, including a rare performance of "Chem 6A" from their debut album The Legend of Chin. The concert also allowed fans to pick up exclusive swag and get photos with the band.
