Key Competitors
-
University of California, Los Angeles: The storied rivalry with UCLA, rooted in close geographic proximity and long-standing competition, is a highlight of every season. The Bruins' fast-paced play contrasts with the Trojans' tactical approach.
-

-
University of Arizona: The Wildcats’ aggressive tactics present a formidable challenge for the Trojans. Their run-ins with SC turn into thrilling exhibitions of contrasting styles, with their offensive onslaught testing the mettle of Arizona’s defense.
-
University of Utah: This team from Salt Lake employs solid defensive tactics, often resulting in tightly contested battles of endurance. Both teams show off their strengths, but the Utes must find ways to move the ball efficiently to break through the Trojans’ fortress.

Notable USC Men's Basketball Players
When you see the Trojans play, you might be putting yourself in the arena with the next NBA superstar or international hoops icon! These illustrious players made the leap from this revered collegiate program to notable careers in the NBA:
-
Bill Sharman (1946–1950): Sharman, lauded for his sharpshooting and free-throw accuracy, was drafted 17th overall in 1950 by the Washington Capitols. Playing primarily for the Boston Celtics, he won four NBA championships and was an eight-time All-Star. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976 and, as a general manager for the Los Angeles Lakers, was largely credited with building the 1980 and 1982 championship teams.
-
Paul Westphal (1969–1972): Drafted 10th overall in 1972 by the Boston Celtics, Westphal, an effective point guard, became a five-time NBA All-Star and was a key contributor during the Phoenix Suns' 1976 Finals run. He was celebrated for his playmaking abilities and went on to coach several teams at the college and professional level. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2019.
-
Gus Williams (1971–1975): Williams, drafted 20th overall in 1975 by the Golden State Warriors, became known as "The Wizard." He quickly made an impression and was named to the All-Rookie First Team in 1976. Renowned for his quickness and scoring prowess, the two-time NBA All-Star helped the Seattle SuperSonics (now OCK Thunder) win a title in 1979. He finished his 12-year career with an average of 17.1 ppg, and in 2004, his #1 jersey was retired by the Sonics
-
Harold Miner (1989–1992): Nicknamed "Baby Jordan" because of his leaping ability, Miner, who also wore #23, was the 1992 Pac-10 Player of the Year. He was snatched up by the Miami Heat as the 12th overall draft pick in the NBA Draft that same year. A two-time Slam Dunk Contest champion, his brief career left a lasting impression. He was inducted into the Pac-10 Hall of Honor, and his USC jersey was retired in 2012.
-
DeMar DeRozan (2008–2009): Selected 9th overall in 2009 by the Toronto Raptors, DeRozan has since been named to the All-Star team several times. As a forward and shooting guard, his scoring ability and athleticism have served multiple teams well, including the Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, and Chicago Bulls. He won gold medals representing the United States at the 2014 FIBA World Cup and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.
